Mikaela is a soulful singer-songwriter and pianist originally from Seattle, Washington. As a youth, she was exposed to all kinds of music and immediately fell in love with singing. She excelled atclassical piano and voice and sang in various choirs around Washington including Seattle’s legendary Black Nativity Gospel Choir.A recent graduate of the acclaimed Jazz Studies program at the University of North Texas in Dallas, she has performed in venues all over the US—from the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Madison Square Garden in New York, to the Prophet Bar in Dallas.
Mikaela is an in-demand vocalist and sings regularly with major artists like pop/rock sensation Ben Folds, R&B vocalist Chrisette Michele, and Trey Songz (video has over 160,000 hits on YouTube). She has sung on over 30 studio albums and her contemporary rendition of ‘Autumn Leaves’ is featured on “Voices of Love”, a compilation of well-known female jazz singers. Most recently, her voice was featured in “En Passant”, an award winning animated film created in London.
In 2012, Mikaela released her first EP of all original songs, “Fall With You”. Her music is a unique blend of pop, soul, and R&B and she has often been compared to artists like Sara Bareilles, and JoJo.The EP was recorded in Nashville where Mikaela has been privileged to work with the city’s top studio musicians at recording sessions every year since she was 15 with Disk Eyes Productions. Two songs on her EP have been used in international commercials for Sennheiser headphones, and she has won numerous awards for her writing and performing.
Mikaela was named a Regional Finalist in the prestigious Mountain Stage New Song Contest, and was both a Kerrville New Folk Finalist and a Telluride Troubadour, performing at both festivals. She won 1st Place in the “Pop” category of the Indie International Songwriting Contest and has placed in numerous other national songwriting competitions, including International Acoustic Music Awards and the 29th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. She has won many vocal awards, most recently a Downbeat Award for Jazz.
